Teacher Spotlight – Helena
Teacher spotlight for May is @theyogaroad , aka the lovely Helena. Here she’s shared with us her yoga journey:
I first started practicing yoga when I was in my late teens, at that point I didn’t really know what was going on below the surface of my physical body, but whatever it was, it resonated with me. I had started to notice within myself a deep yearning to explore both my inner and outer worlds on a much deeper level. Finding and committing to a practice of Yoga has opened up my realm of possibility and understanding immeasurably. Yoga has become for me the way I live my life in every moment, and time on the mat practicing Asana is the balance of stillness and movement that allows my body and mind silence to observe what is happening along the way. I am incredibly drawn to the traditional system of hatha yoga and the clarity and simplicity this can reveal to us.
My practice, and also the way in which I facilitate a class is drawn from a slow and mindful rhythm, with a strong intention on right posture and alignment in conjunction with a steady breath to carry our movement and return us to stillness in between. This way of practicing does not ask anything more of you than to simply be at ease in your current state, whatever that may be, without striving to attain something we can become more and more present and aware of how we respond to our practice and in turn everything around us. I make this commitment to myself to maintain and further develop clarity and connection to something greater than my own individual. It is such an honour to share in practice and to explore with all those who feel curious in developing a clearer understanding of what it means to be patient with our own process of life and how we can incorporate yoga into all of our life.
